IBDP
The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers a rigorous, consistent high school curriculum for the children of globally mobile families. An IB curriculum comprises of four programmes: Primary Years Programme(PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP), and Career-related Programme(CP) that focus on teaching students to think critically, independently and towards developing a global outlook.
In India, IB curriculum is followed in about 18 world Schools of about 11 cities- including The Sri Ram School Moulsari, Pathways World School, Scottish High International School, and The American Embassy School.
IB-DP: The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme(IBDP) is a two-year course in school whose examination is taken at the end of Grade 12 (ages 16 to 19). It is considered as the most prestigious pre-university course in the world. Its comprehensive curriculum allows its graduates to fulfil requirements of various national education systems including that of India. IBDP consists of 6 subject groups consisting of various subjects (explained below).
To be eligible for IBDP, students should take 3 higher level(HL) and 3 standard level(SL) subjects. A student must take one subject from each of the 6 subject groups. Furthermore, a student can take 3 science subjects after obtaining prior approval from IB. The various subject groups are discussed in detail under the IBDPsyllabus section.

IB-DP- Misconceptions
IB curriculum is not suited for Indian students
The IB Diploma Programme is a challenging programme which covers depth and breadth in 6 subjects at a time. It fosters in its students the need to think outside the box. Emphasis is on concepts and individualized research rather than on memorizing facts and achieving sky rocketed scores. Moreover, the IB Diploma Programme is recognized by the Indian Government. We cannot ignore the fact that IB curriculum is expensive in comparison to local colleges. Furthermore, it also does not prepare students wishing to apply for IIT and BITS. The IB curriculum is different from Indian curriculums like CBSE, ICSE and hence coping up with IB as well as Indian entrance curriculum exams can be a tough task. However, the IB curriculum gives Indian students a glimpse of the university level courses abroad. Hence, IBDP is well suited for an Indian student who wishes to study overseas
IB-DP does not provide only subject waiver
Students may not receive credit for both an AP exam (or IB or other international exam) and a college course taken before high school graduation covering the same subject matter, nor for an AP and IB exam covering the same subject matter. However, credits are awarded based on the following criteria: 6 semester units of elective credit for each score of 5, 6, or 7 on the IB Higher Level exams, up to a maximum of four exams, or 20 semester units of elective credit to students who earn the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a score of 30 and above, whichever is higher.
IB-DP scores are not accepted by Indian universities
IB scores are accepted by Indian universities; however, it is not a feasible option as the admission timelines of Indian universities and the IB result declaration do not coincide. It is due to this mismatch of timelines that not many students apply to Indian universities with their IB scores.
Changing from Indian curriculum like CBSE to IB in grade 11 is a bad choice
IBDP hones the skills and knowledge of a student and raises it up to a global scale. It is an internationally accepted and renowned programme which paves the path for Indian students willing to study abroad. Though there is a significant difference in the two curriculums, shifting to IB is not a bad choice provided you have really thought it through.
